According to residents in Elsoff, the widowed wife of Johannes Huester (Anna Katherina Closs Huester??) was forced to rapidly remarry due to primogeniture laws of the time.  As son John had already emigrated to America, Joseph and Daniel -- in anger, stole their stepfather's sheep on Easter morning and drove them to the next town.  The monies from this theft allowed them to emigrate in 1737 and eventually purchase land.  It is surmised that the Martin Luther bible in the possession of the Althouse family was the bible from which Joseph and Daniel tore the front page -- which noted the records of their births.

St Andrew, captained by John Stedman (Master) stopped in Cowes, Isle of Wight, England, arriving 9/26/1737.  Settled first in Goshenhoppen with John, then moved to Bern Township, Berks Co..  Sailed from Rotterdam on the ship "St. Andrews".  Took the oath of allegiance at Philideplphia, PA on 9/26/1737.  See certified data and war service filed with Nat. #301631, accepted by NSDAR on 4/17/1937.  The New Zion's Reformed Church is a few miles east of Strasstown, PA, and is also called Blue Mountain Church.

Was elder in the St. Paul's German Reformed Church along with John Langel.  He and John 'laid out Boundary City near the center of the township on 1/4/1854.  The post office was established there 5/11/1852 with Daniel as the first postmaster.  He is still also a principal business man, the great two-story brick store and warehouse is kept by D. Hiester & Son (formerly Daniel G. was the 'son', and since 1883, Henry has been the partner.  The senior Hiester also owns the Boundary City Flouring Mills (built 1878 at a cost of $9,000).  There are two run of burrs for what, one for middlings, and one for corn, besides a set of rollers (which were put in during 1886).  The capacity of the mills is about 40 barrels of flour per day.
